The Original Butlers in the Buff Australia
Want to work as a buff butler?
Butlers in the Buff was the world’s first cheeky butler company and it’s still the best known. If you’re after sociable, well-paid casual work in a business that moves quickly, we’d like to hear from you.
You choose when you work, so shifts fit around study, a day job or training. The pay is strong, your travel costs are covered and the parties are a good laugh. We’re looking for men who are well presented, in good shape and confident with a room full of strangers, and who are also polite, dependable and always on time.
A big personality – Looks get you noticed, but personality gets you rebooked. You’ll be working a room of people who’ve come to party, from the bride’s best friend to her nan, and it’s your job to make sure every one of them has a good night.
Work ethic – Guests book us expecting something special, and delivering it takes effort. Expect to be on your feet, switched on and good company from the first minute to the last.
Reliability – We ask every butler to arrive at least 15 minutes before a booking, every time. If that’s not you, this isn’t the job for you. A client’s party matters as much to us as it does to them.
Fitness – Our standards are high. We look for a toned, athletic build with a flat stomach and good arms and chest, rather than a bodybuilder’s bulk, and a smile to go with it.
Tick those boxes and you could be earning $60 an hour. There’s no minimum commitment: take as many or as few shifts as suit you and fit them around everything else in your week.
Shifts are short and well paid. Butlers average $60 an hour plus tips, which is why the work suits students covering fees, travellers saving for the next trip and anyone topping up a wage.
The events you’ll work
Hens parties, bridal showers, 21st and 30th birthdays, divorce parties, graduations, girls’ nights in and out, product launches and promotional work.
And our favourite: the party that needs no reason at all.
Training:
New butlers learn on the job. We pair you with one of our longest-serving butlers at a real booking, so you see how it’s done and hear first-hand what the work is like.
Butlering isn’t the only thing we offer customers. Once you’re settled you can train for our other activities as well, which means more bookings, more pay and a way to move up in the company.
Before you apply, have these ready:
- A photo of your ID
- Two photos: one headshot and one upper-body
- Your date of birth and height
- About 5 minutes
We are fully licensed and insured for public and commercial use.
FAQ
-
What does the job pay?
-
We pay a flat fee per booking: $70 for one hour, $140 for two hours and $210 for three, each within a 10-mile radius and with a bonus of up to $5 on top.
Extra hours earn $70 each.Travel is paid at 50c a mile beyond the first 10 miles from your home address.
There are opportunities here you won’t find at other companies.
Fully trained butlers can also run cocktail classes and model for life drawing if they’d like to, and both mean more shifts and more money.
-
How often will I get work?
-
That comes down to your location and how available you are. Most butlers work every weekend, more so in peak season, and it’s common to have more than one booking over a weekend.
-
How and when does the money arrive?
-
Straight into your bank account, around 10 to 12 days after you’ve done the job.
-
Do I need to drive?
-
No, though it makes life easier. Most jobs are roughly half an hour away by car.
-
Do you train new butlers?
-
We do. Anyone without experience shadows one of our seasoned butlers on an unpaid training job, as close to home as possible. Pass that and you’re added to our system and offered paid work.
-
Are bookings solo or in a team?
-
You’ll do both. Once trained, you might be the only butler at one party and one of several at the next, depending on what the client has booked.
-
Does the uniform really show my bum?
-
It does. You’ll wear an apron, collar, cuffs and bow tie, and your bum is on show. Occasionally a client requests boxers or trousers and shoes.
-
What if I can't do a job you offer me?
-
Just say so. Jobs are offered by WhatsApp, and a quick reply telling us you’re unavailable is all we need.
-
Which days will I be working?
-
Fridays and Saturdays, for the most part. Midweek and Sunday bookings do come up from time to time.
-
Is this employment or self-employment?
-
You’re self-employed, so you send us an invoice for each event and handle your own tax.
-
How early are events booked in?
-
As much as 12 months in advance, so a diary is essential.
-
Am I allowed to stay once the booking's over?
-
No. Staying on isn’t allowed, even when the client invites you to. Your job is to host and make the party memorable, and you’re welcome to have fun with the guests while you’re on the clock.
